Learning Approach

TAL uses a blended model that links academic rigour with practical experience.

Participants engage in immersive learning sessions, peer dialogue and collaborative problem-solving. Working with leading scholars, policymakers and practitioners from across Africa, participants bring different perspectives and lived experience into the learning environment.

The focus is not only on understanding Africa’s challenges, but on recognising opportunity, making better decisions and leading change in complex environments.

What You Will Explore

TAL engages with the issues shaping Africa’s future and the leadership required to respond to them.

  • Systems Leadership and Institutional Transformation: Understand how complex institutions operate and how leaders can drive change across systems.
  • Governance and Development: Examine governance, institutional reform and the choices shaping Africa’s development.
  • Economic Integration and AfCFTA: Explore AfCFTA, industrialisation and regional value chains, and what stronger economic integration requires from leaders.
  • Ubuntu and African Knowledge Systems: Consider how African intellectual traditions and values can inform contemporary leadership.
  • Collective Intelligence and Collaboration: Strengthen your ability to lead across teams, institutions, sectors and borders.
  • Africa in a Changing Global Landscape: Engage with geopolitics, climate change, artificial intelligence and other forces reshaping African economies and institutions.

  • Work more effectively across institutional and professional boundaries

TAL is designed for mid-career and senior African professionals already operating in positions of responsibility and influence. The programme brings together leaders from the public, private and civil society sectors, including:

Entrepreneurs and business figures driving investment and growth

Public officials and policymakers shaping governance and regional cooperation

Emerging professionals stepping into strategic roles

Civil society actors advancing reform and social change

Leadership Experience Matters

The strongest candidates bring significant professional experience, leadership responsibility and a clear commitment to Africa’s transformation.

A formal academic degree is not required.

Format

  • 10-month leadership journey
  • 120+ hours of advanced curriculum
  • Hybrid delivery offering interactive online learning combined with immersive residencies in Nairobi and Rabat
  • Highly selective cohort of 25–30 participants from across Africa

The in-person residencies provide space for deeper learning, peer exchange and collaboration.

Fee

Participation requires a programme fee of €8,000. *

* The fee excludes travel, accommodation, visas, medical insurance, local transport and related personal expenses.
